The “Energy” Edition of the Art Competition Successfully Concluded
The second edition of the START21ART art competition, this time organised as a Czech-Slovak event and dedicated to the theme of “Energy”, successfully built on the inaugural Slovak edition. The level of participation and the quality of the submitted works exceeded all expectations of the competition’s founder and organiser, the KUBIKUM Foundation.
The START21ART competition is intended for fourth-year students of secondary schools with an artistic focus. Each participating school had the opportunity to nominate up to one-tenth of its graduating students to represent the school in the competition.
The competition was announced on 21 May 2022, and registration for schools and students opened on 21 September 2022. A total of 17 secondary schools from Slovakia and 6 schools from the Czech Republic took part. Altogether, 98 students met the competition requirements.
The students’ task was to create an artwork on the theme “ENERGY”. The competition consisted of two evaluation stages. The aim of Stage I was to select the 21 best works from each participating country. As a result, 42 students each received EUR 210, while the winning school received EUR 2,121. In the final stage, the artworks were evaluated by a jury composed of representatives of the participating schools and personalities from Slovak art education nominated by the organiser. The works were also evaluated by the previous year's winner, Laura Šebestová.
Following the publication of the results, all competition artworks were included in a public online auction held through the KUBIKUM art register. The proceeds from the auction were awarded to the artists in support of art and artistic education.
The KUBIKUM Foundation contributed financial and non-financial prizes with a total value exceeding EUR 10,000 to support the development of art and artistic education. We believe that the START21ART art competition will continue to enjoy growing popularity in future editions. Preparations for the next edition are already underway, and it will be officially announced at the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year in September.
After the final evaluation of the competition, a ceremonial award presentation took place at the Dubná Skala Hotel in Žilina.
